There is an open visiting policy for all our patients although we prefer the visitors not to be present during the ‘going on’ and the ‘coming off’ procedures for Health and Safety reasons.

Our Aim

Our aim is to give each patient individualised and sensitive care and treatment of the highest standard by renal trained staff, using efficient and up-to-date equipment and procedures, in a safe and friendly environment. The Unit has a friendly and relaxed atmosphere and patients are encouraged, where possible, to participate in their treatments.


Dialysis treatment sessions are from three to four and a half hours, three times per week, depending on patients’ needs. There are 28 dialysis stations operating a morning, afternoon and evening session (time slots: 7:30am, 12:30pm, and 5pm).

All dialysis treatments are scheduled on a rota basis and therefore the unit can not always offer the dialysis times that patients request.  Every attempt is made to arrange the rota to suit patient needs, but at times you may have little choice as to when the dialysis sessions will be during the week.  If you would prefer to dialyse at another time or day, then you will be put on a waiting list and given your choice of time and day as soon as a slot becomes available.  All patients dialyse three times a week and the sessions have to be spread out over the week as evenly as possible for clinical reasons.

All dialysis patients are entitled to free prescriptions from their GPs. Each patient is issued with a co-op medication card, please bring this to every dialysis session so that it can be up-dated.


We offer tea and coffee to people whilst on haemodialysis. Please bring some light food with you if you wish, especially if you are diabetic. You may also bring your own blanket and cushions for comfort. Free Wi Fi is available. Ask the unit staff for the login details.

Holiday Haemodialysis

We are able to arrange dialysis for patient holidays both at home and abroad, subject to availability.  We also accept holiday patients from other units to dialyse here and on our Cromer unit – again, this is subject to availability of spaces.  Please contact us to find out more details.

Every other month a patient information evening is held for renal patients and their carers to learn about dialysis treatment from the renal multidisciplinary team.  There are patients information leaflets, books and videos available on the unit.

The ward is located on Level 3 in the East Block
Please use the Inpatients East and Centre entrance/s and follow the signs to Jack Pryor Renal Unit
If you are coming by car and need to park, the closest car park/s are K, L, M.

If the car park is full, further spaces may be available in the new 310-space public car park opposite A&E. Please note this car park is operated independently to the hospital car parks. For further information click here.
