Norfolk Suffolk Cambridge Cystic Fibrosis Network guideline.
All children with CF no matter how good their lung function should receive peri-operative antibiotics. Pre-operatively these can be administered orally in those children with minimal lung disease but should be given intravenously in all other cases. Antibiotics should be given a minimum of 48 hours before and 48 hours after a general anaesthetic. It is important that the surgical teams arranging such admissions are made aware of both this and the antibiotic recommendations in the referral letter. All emergency surgical admissions should involve the paediatric CF team at the earliest opportunity
