This guideline aims to help Identifying women at risk of developing Gestational diabetes mellitus GDM in pregnancy and to simplify the referral care pathway for all pregnant women who have risk factors for GDM. It also simplify the management of GDM in pregnancy and labour. This is to ensure providing the best care and achieving the best maternal and fetal outcome.

It ackowledges and explains why NNUH does not use NICE diagnostic criteria. This issue rests with the Trust Board.
