PROFESSIONAL EXPERTISE: My clinical expertise is in the management of patients with small bowel disease and malabsorption. I have particular long-term experience in the management of patients with Intestinal Failure. My research MD was in Crohn’s disease and Intestinal Failure and I have a keen interest in the management of these patients. I have full accreditation for diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy of the upper and lower gastrointestinal tract.
Currently “principal investigator” for on-going research studies in Gastroenterology in London and Norwich. Project leader of an international research programme on malabsorption in collaboration with other European Institutions .
I obtained a recent peer-reviewed research grant as scientific leader of an international project on intestinal disease and epigenetic mutations from the Cariparma Foundation in Italy.
Professional profile: I qualified in 1990 from the University of Bologna, Italy. Having completed my house jobs and CCT in Gastroenterology in Italy I moved to St’ Marks Hospital in London where I completed a 4 year research MD establishing the role of plasma citrulline concentration in Crohn’s disease patients with short bowel syndrome. During this time I gained experience in intestinal failure and malabsorption as well as in the management of acute and chronic intestinal disease. I then undertook a Consultant & Senior Lecturer position in Italy (Parma University Hospital). During my research MD and further career I developed an interest in malabsorption and malnutrition, and I have since carried out further research studies on this topic. Alongside Prof Alastair Forbes, my goal is to implement and develop a formal Intestinal Failure Unit for East Anglia.
Personal Profile: I enjoy practicing sports and listening to both classical and blues music.
