Profile

Mr Rai works as a Consultant Orthopaedic and Spinal Surgeon in the very busy Orthopaedic & Trauma Department at the Norfolk and Norwich Univerisity Hospital.

Mr Rai graduated from Southampton University in 1990 and spent 17 years training to be a spinal surgeon. He has been a Consultant Orthopaedic/Spinal Surgeon at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Bupa Hospital, Norwich since April 2001. Most of Mr Rai’s training was done in the South of England and Spinal Fellowships in Australia, South Africa, America and Europe. He was also awarded a European Travelling Fellowship in 2002. He regularly attends spinal meetings and gives lecture both on the national and international circuit.

Mr Rai’s spinal practice is broad based, including all aspects of spinal pathology including cervical, thoracic and lumbar disc disease, adult and paediatric scoliosis, trauma and tumour reconstruction. He has a very busy clinical practice receiving referrals from all over East Anglia and is involved in 500-600 operative cases per year. For more information on spinal conditions: Spinal Conditions

Mr Rai works closely other specialities, which include physiotherapy, pain clinic, oncologists, neurologists and rheumatologists to be able to offer a multi-disciplinary approach to the management of spinal conditions. Mr Rai is the author of many original research papers into spinal conditions. He has featured in newspaper articles and has been the subject of a documentary on the Discovery Channel for the innovative work done at The Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital.

Am is married to Jess and they have two children. He enjoys all aspect of sports. He is particularly interested in squash, golf and keeping fit.

Although he is finding this difficult with a young family.

There are three Spinal Surgeons at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital. Mr Rai works very closely with Robert Crawford and Lennel Lutchman to provide an efficient service to all their patients.
