Clinical photographers are responsible for the daily recording of clinical conditions presented by patients, working in a photographic studio, clinic, ward or operating theatre environment. The images, taken with consent, can be used for diagnosis or just for recording a condition during the stages of treatment. Sometimes medical illustrators are also required to undertake other photographic duties such as public relations photography, location photography, medical legal photography and creative studio work.
Photographers working in ophthalmology use a range of specialised cameras and techniques to help doctors record and diagnose conditions of the eye. They photograph more than 1500 patients per month, producing images that are used to monitor conditions such as diabetes, macular degeneration and glaucoma.
Designed by Ann Haynes, the award-winning visual material produced by the medical illustration team is widely used for patient information, staff presentations, education and research – ranging from colourful menus to brochures, exhibition design and posters. Poster prices
Laurentiu Huianu is responsible for filming and editing DVDs produced in-house for information, education and research, working closely with staff throughout the Trust. New technology is increasingly being used to create animated sequences and interactive web-based programmes that are especially useful for teaching purposes.
